This tutorial is a result of some
visitors asking how to use my frames. First let me say
that I prefer not to use the PSP frame format (.PFR)
because of the sizing of the frames themselves when I
make them. If I were to offer them in PSP frame format,
the proportions don't always turn out the way I had
intended - in fact, most of them just don't. Also, in
my opinion, this gives you more options when it comes to
framing.
Getting Started:
For this tutorial, you'll need something
to frame (an image of your choice). I'll be using a
photo image I got from the
Morguefile. Be sure to read their terms of use,
if you download from there.
You'll also need a frame. =) You can
download a frame
here. The frame was created by me and is
another one of my contributions to the public domain!
It is to remain copyright-free but other than that, it
is yours to keep and do with as you please!
-
Start a new document by going to
File...New and use these dimensions:
700x700 on a transparent background.
-
Copy (CTRL+C) your frame and paste
it as a new layer onto your blank canvas.
-
Copy (CTRL+C) your image and paste
it as a new layer onto your canvas too.
-
With your move tool
,
move your image to where you want it in the frame.
Resize your image if want. But if you really want
to focus in on something in the image, you probably
won't want to resize it. Just place what you want
to focus on, in the frames window.
-
Activate your frame layer and with
your magic wand tool
,
select the outside of your frame.
-
Go to Selections... Modify...
Expand... and enter 20 in the box the click OK.
-
Activate your image layer and press
the delete button, then deselect (CTRL+D).
-
In your layer palette, right click
on your image layer and choose Merge... Merge
Visible.
-
Cut your newly merged layers and
paste it as a new image. Voila! There you go.
Your image is nicely framed. =)
