Here's a pretty quick and easy way to get a
grunge text look.

1. take an
photo image - any image will do, but the
"busier" the better. Go to Morguefile.com
and you'll have an awesome variety to choose
from.
2. Open up your image in PSP.
3. Go to Colors and apply these settings:
Hue: 43 Saturation: 0
4. Go to Colors >> Brightness/Contrast (Ctrl+B)
and play around with the brightness and
contrast settings. I have mine set to the
following:
Brightness: 60 Contrast: 90
5. Now start a new document by going to
File...New... (Ctrl+N). Select a font (nice
and chunky for mine - Arial Black). Set your
foreground and background (both) to black.
6. With your text tool, set your stroke to
2pts. and type your text. Right-click on
your vector layer and duplicate it. Then
hide your original vector layer.
7. With your duplicate layer, double click
and turn off your stroke. Then convert your
duplicate vector layer to a Raster layer by
right clicking on it in your layer palette
or going to Layers >> Convert to Raster
Layer.
8. Still on your duplicate layer, go to
Selections and choose Select All, then Float
your selection (Ctrl+A & Ctrl+F).
9. Go back to your photo image. Copy and
paste it as a new layer right above your
text. Activate your new layer by clicking on
it in your layer palette.
10. Now play around with the positioning of
it. Use the Selections Marquee to guide you.
Once your happy with the positioning, go to
Selections and Invert (Ctrl+Shift+I) and
press Delete on your keyboard.
11. At this point, you can Un-hide your
original vector layer. Then right click on
any of the layers and choose Merge...Merge
Visible... OR you can add some color by
following these steps...
12. Activate your original vector layer and
duplicate it once more. Move your new
duplicate layer to the very top of your
palette (above your photo image).
Right-click on your duplicate layer, turn
off your stroke and choose a fill color that
you like. After you've filled it with your
color, Change your blend mode to something
other than Normal. I've changed mine to
Multiply. Just play around with the blend
mode until you're satisfied. Click
here to see some what I came up with just by
playing around with the blend mode. =)

Well, that's pretty much it! Talk about easy!!
