Quick Coloring in Paint Shop Pro

So you've come across an image that you really could use...but darn - it's the wrong color!  Well, don't throw it out just yet!  There's a simple solution.  This tutorial will show you how to change the overall color of an image.

The only file you'll need for this tutorial is provided for you here.

We are starting out with a gold stamp/frame.

Change the color of this gold stamp... ...into the color of your choice in four super-easy steps!
  • Open up the file in PSP.  You'll notice that there are three layers to this file:

    • shadow

    • border

    • background

  • You can choose to leave the shadow out of your final result - it's up to you.  For now though, you can go ahead and hide this layer.

  • Activate your border layer and get ready to color.

  • Go to Colors...Colorize.  You'll see two settings that you can change - Hue and Saturation.  Apply these settings below:

  • Now you can apply the same settings to your background layer and there you have it.  You've completely changed the color of your stamp from gold to blue.  How easy was that? =)

  • Once you've colored your stamp you can play around with the shadow.  There's no need to color the shadow, it's a black shadow and when was the last time you saw a colored shadow anyway?

NOTES:  It's not often you can find something out there these days, that you can use however you want so take advantage of this stamp - it is yours.  Be creative!  You can use this stamp in so many different ways.  Here are a couple of ideas for ya.

  • Make a brush with it;

  • Just use the border of the stamp and use it to frame something;

  • Make a mask with it.

I'd love to see how you've used it so drop me a line anytime. =)
